The Result: Display of Power, Wisdom and Glory

In the final part of this series we look at the power of the preaching of Jesus Christ crucified. It must be preached and through its preaching God will be glorified. Not only this, but we must be aware that it will be rejected so we avoid the lies of false gospels that are more easily received. God, in his plan, determines that the preaching of his word will be used to bring his people to salvation. May this give…

The Foundation: God’s Power

The rescue of sinners from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and the domain of darkness is a result of the supernatural power of God. The same power that spoke this universe into existence is the same power towards and working in his people. Don’t accept a counterfeit god with no power. Don’t accept a counterfeit man-made religion that is not marked by the power of God. The gospel is God’s power to save for all who believe.

The Surpassing Worth of Knowing Christ

It’s time to rejoice in Christ and treasure the righteousness of God in the gospel. You will only find true joy as you count your own righteousness as loss and see the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ as the treasure that it really is. Have you truly encountered the Christ through the power of the gospel? Jesus came to save his people from their sins. What…

Jesus Came. So What?

Jesus came to give his life as a ransom for many. In response we must call out to him for mercy and follow him in serving and suffering. We see a striking contrast of responses to Jesus in this text by James and John, and then by Bartimaeus.

You Know God

Why do all people find the sunset and sunrise beautiful? Why do all people marvel at the stars and planets? Why is music beautiful to our ears? Why do we find artwork pleasing to the eye? Why do we care about justice? Why do we have guilt? The Bible declares that these things demonstrate that we know God. Is that really the case?

Jesus Is the Gospel

In the introduction to the gospel of Mark, we’re compelled to see Jesus as the greatest news we’ve ever heard. We’re compelled see how all of Scripture points to Jesus Christ. We’re compelled to humility like John, recognizing that even the best of us are nothing compared to Jesus. We’re compelled to experience the power of his Spirit which he promised to give to his church. We’re compelled to see the fatherly love that God has for his Son. We’re…
