Learning from the Past

If we fail to take the lessons from the past and learn from them, we’ll be prone to repeat the same mistakes. In this passage, failing to learn from the past could mean facing God’s eternal judgment. In a stern warning and urging to live the Christian life like an Olympic athlete, this passage is a call for us to flee from the false worship and religions of our day and to pursue the heavenly prize of the glory of…

The God Who Upholds

Just how in control is God? How does he govern this universe? Does he allow secondary causes (laws of nature) run their course or is he more involved? What we see is that God unholds, governs, and sustains every single particle in his universe for his own glory. This is our God!

Rights and the Gospel

As Paul discusses giving up rights for the sake of Christian brethren, he looks at his own example when it comes to the gospel. As a man who’s been transformed by the grace of God he gives up his rights or what he could rightful demand or claim so that the gospel can go forth unhindered. We look at this important text together and then draw 7 principles that apply to our own evangelism.

The God Who Decrees

God’s decree is effective, eternal, not based on foreknowledge, and includes every single detail. The Scriptures are clear on these points yet raise in our minds serious questions? Does God really ordain all that comes to pass, including evil? Does God destine some people for hell? How can we be responsible? These are important questions to consider as we grow in our knowledge of God.

Use Your Knowledge to Build Up

Should Christians drink alcohol? That’s the broad question that is asked. What we see in this text is that knowledge of God must manifest itself in love, and this love is best displayed in self sacrifice. That is the example of Jesus Christ in the gospel. The love of God not only excludes practicing idolatry but also demands giving up one’s right or privilege for the sake of the brethren. This speaks to many issues in the church today. Certainly…

The God Who Creates

“For [God’s] invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made” (Romans 1:20). Certainly this statement from Scripture is true. We see God’s wisdom and power in his creatures, in nature and in our universe. It is plain to all and invokes in every single human being a sense of awe and wonder. This awe and wonder is designed to bring forth…

Glorifying God in Singleness (Part 2)

In this passage we examine the reasons why the apostle Paul would counsel virgins to remain unmarried. This Holy Spirit inspired counsel is valuable for us today as we make decisions in light of the principles of Scripture.

The Inerrancy of Scripture

Inerrancy means that the Bible without error, it speaks truthfully in every statement. What a comforting reality that the word of God is true and never fails.

Live as You Are Called

Glorifying God doesn’t mean that you have to change your circumstance, your ethnic status or your social status. You can glorify God just as you are by loving him and doing what he says.

The Sufficiency of Scripture

Is the Scripture enough? Do you live like it? What practically does the sufficiency of Scripture mean? This is a wonderful but often neglected truth of Scripture. May a reflection on this great doctrine fill our hearts with wonder and love for the words of God.

Glorifying God in Marriage to an Unbeliever

How can one glorify God in their body when they are married to an unbeliever? Doubtless many Corinthians found themselves after their conversion difficult to live peaceably with their unbelieving spouse. Is divorce an option? What about holiness and purity? Wouldn’t an unbelieving spouse profane or defile the home? This passage gives gospel power to a difficult situation.

The Clarity of Scripture

Is Scripture able to stand as a final authority? Does it’s interpretation depend on the interpreter or is it able to be clear in its presentation of truth? We see from Scripture and Jesus’ example that Scripture is able to speak clearly on matters concerning salvation and Christian growth.
