The Seventy Weeks

One of the most difficult passages in the Bible is examined in its context and shown to be an amazing fulfillment of predictive prophecy. This vision received in 538 BC predicted future events. Those events came to their incredible fulfillment from 171 to 164 BC during the terrible reign of Antiochus Epiphanes over the Jewish people. The Vision of the Ram and Goat

Daniel received clarity on his vision of the four beasts recorded in chapter 7. This chapter helps to demystify many speculations made about the end times. For more details about properly understanding Daniel, see this leaflet that was prepared for the sermon. Also click here to read about the historicity of Daniel’s writing.

The Vision of the Four Beasts

In modern times this passage is typically a passage about the anti-christ at the end of the age. But in reality, this passage is about the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. This passage is about the kingdom of God, inaugurated in the first century by our Lord. What we see is a unity in Daniel 7, 8, 9, and 10 referring to the events that transpired just before the coming of Christ. Great…

Daniel and the Lions’ Den

What must we do when the laws of God contradict the laws of men? How shall we live in our day and age of change? This text calls us to behold our sovereign God and be faithful to him in the midst of any and all adversity. * Note: Some deny the historicity of Darius the Mede mentioned in this chapter. Here is a brief write-up defending his historicity.

The Writing on the Wall

In this historical account of the last of the Neo-Babylonian kings, God continues to accomplish his purposes in big details and small. In the conquer of Babylon, God brings his judgment to those who should have known better. We must also learn not to ignore our great, sovereign God but come before him in humility, seeking his mercy and grace, and finding our joy in him.

The Humiliation of the Proud in the Exaltation of the King

Here is a call to humility. Here is a call to repent of pride. But it’s not what you think. This is not a finger wag at sin. This is not a call to try harder. This is a call to see the greatness of God. And when we catch just a glimpse of God’s greatness and power, we will be moved to humility. We will, when our thoughts about God are right, have right thoughts about ourselves. So take…

The Fiery Furnace

This sermon looks at an important lesson from Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They trusted that God is able to deliver them in any situation, but if not they would never bow to another god or ethic. This message is needed today as religiously faithful people stick out in a pluralistic society such as ours. Will you bow to the new sexual ethic of our age? Will you bow to “reproductive rights”? Will you bow to save money, status, employment, or…

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream and Daniel’s God

Nebuchadnezzar dreams in 602BC about events in the future. Daniel, given grace by God to interpret those dreams demonstrates the power and wisdom of God. Here we see the sovereign God who is the author of history, who declares the end from the beginning, tells us ahead of time what he plans to do with powerful kingdoms. He also tells us about the coming kingdom of God manifest in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Faith in the Giving God

While certainly there is much written about Daniel that is there for us to emulate, but more than that, the book of Daniel is about God. Here we see that God is a giving God. He controls kingdom, grace, and wisdom and grants it to whom he wishes. Let us resolve to trust and live for this great God! How will you live knowing that you’ll stand before the king of the universe one day?

A Life of Thanksgiving

Luther said that gratitude is the most basic Christian attitude. Christians, of all people, should be thankful all the time. Here we have a reminder why. We look at the past, present, and future for reasons why we should be grateful in every and any circumstance.

A Life of Prayer

** Note: The last half of the recording has no video but audio was recorded. What is the proper motivation so that we pray without ceasing? It is this question that we explore as we consider the text “pray without ceasing.” Thankfully, God’s word not only gives us commands but God gives us proper motivation so that we obey from the heart and not just with externals. May his word encourage us to pray as we ought.
