Sermons from 2017 (Page 4)
The Flood
The flood was historical, global and catastrophic. We can talk science, evidence, and so on, but what does this event in history teach us today? It teaches us about our God. Let us not forget the justice and hatred God has for sin. May we never think light of sin as we wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
From Adam to Noah
How bad were things in the generations between Adam and Noah? We see widespread corruption from fallen angels to wicked men. In this midst of this we see our unchanging God as a God of judgment and a God of grace.
The New Covenant in His Blood
What did Jesus mean when he raised his cup at the last supper and said, “This is the new covenant in my blood”? There are wonderful realities when we consider the new covenant!
Cain and Abel
After the entrance of sin into the world, God promises two kinds of offspring will emerge: the offspring of the serpent, and the offspring of the woman leading to the Savior. We see these two lines in Cain and Abel and the unfolding of God’s plan.
The Fall of Mankind
In this sermon we explore the entrance of sin into God’s good creation. Where did sin come from? Where did Satan come from? Not only do we consider the source of sin, this passage teaches us about temptation, about sin’s consequence, and most importantly, sin’s remedy. In a time where sin has corrupted God’s good creation, God’s grace is seen extended to Adam and Eve and the entire race.
God’s Design for Husband and Wife
What does it mean to be a wife and not a husband? What does it mean to be a husband and not a wife? What does it mean to be a father and not a mother? What does it mean to be a mother and not a father? These questions are tough questions for our current culture. This sermon looks at the original design for husband and wife. Not only that, but how marriage must be guarded for the sake…
The Dignity of Work
Work was not caused by the fall, but it certainly was affected by it. We can slip into a mindset of idolatry or idleness. Who will set us free from these sins? Jesus Christ our Lord. In this passage we see the creation of work, man, and the garden of Eden. In all three we recognize Christ as the redeemer and long for the day of his new creation.
Sabbath Rest
Is the Sabbath binding on Christians today? This message argues that the Sabbath, like circumcision, dietary laws, the priesthood, and the sacrificial system, has been fulfilled in Christ and the new covenant. The rest of Genesis 2 points forward to the new covenant rest we have in Jesus Christ. Have you entered that rest?
Taking Dominion
This message examines the first command given in Scripture, to be fruitful and multiply, subdue the earth and take dominion over all living creatures. We examine what that means, how we’ve failed, and how Christ, in the new humanity, gives greater meaning to this task of taking dominion.
Created in the Image of God
Since all people are created in the image of God we have a special status in creation. People, all people, regardless of skin color, mental capacity, or size have dignity, value, and worth because they are made in God’s image. Along with this special status we also have the immense responsibility of being God’s image bearers. We are responsible to reflect God’s goodness and character. This is a heavy burden until we realize that all that we need is provided…
God’s Work of Forming and Filling Part 2
In this talk we explore the amazing design of the many creatures God created. Every single person has a design intuition when we consider living things that fill the earth. We consider this, why people fight against this intuition, and how we must respond.
God’s Work of Forming and Filling Part 1
After the first day of creation the earth was formless and empty. The rest of the creation week God forms and fills the earth to create a theater to showcase his glory! In this message we slow down to reflect on the wonders of the second, third, and fourth days of creation. Let us glorify God for his greatness as we consider his wondrous works!
