Pentecost and Prophecy

Pastor Alex Russell continues his series through the book of Acts examining the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy as preached by Peter. We are challenged to see the manifold blessings of the outpouring of the Spirit and its continuing effects into our time. Passage: Acts 2:14-21

Prepare to Suffer

Jesus exhorts us to prepare to suffer as part of the cost of discipleship. This is a needed lesson as culture grows more hostile to God and his word. Here is a call to count the cost, see Jesus and worthy, and endure suffering for the sake of his name. Passage: Luke 9:24-26

Come and Die

This sermon considers Jesus’ words: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Here is a call to costly discipleship. It is clear that following Jesus is costly, but worth it. This is a reminder that Christians are called to suffering, rejection, and shame on the pathway to glory. Passage: Luke 9:23

Who Is Jesus? The Christ of God

Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” and Peter responds, “The Christ of God.” This short answer is loaded with meaning and has great significance. This sermon explores the weight of this term as we consider the kingship of Jesus and his exaltation through his humiliation on the cross. Passage: Luke 9:18-22

5000 Reasons to Depend on Jesus

This sermon explores the miraculous provision of our Lord Jesus Christ when he feeds more than five thousand people with a few loaves of bread. This is only a lesson to behold the greatness of Christ, but to realize our dependence on him as disciples. Here is a call for us to see our inability but the great ability in and through Jesus Christ. Here is a call for greater faith. Passage: Luke 9:10-17

Making Gospel Waves

This sermon considers the “gospel waves” that were made as the disciples were faithful to the mission that Jesus gave them. The bold proclamation o the gospel will create waves in a society reaching beyond the pew, to the people and even the palace. Here is a call for us to make gospel waves by courageously speaking truth to those in the pews and the parliament for the glory of Christ. Passage: Luke 9:7-9

Disciples: Called, Equipped, Sent

This sermon brings us back to basics in remembering that our commission under Christ is simple. He calls, he gives, and he sends. We gain insights on what this means in our age and are invited to be a willing servant of Jesus. Passage: Luke 9:1-6

The Desperate Come to Christ

Christ came for the needy, the helpless, and the desperate. In this sermon we consider Jesus’ miraculous healings for people in their desperation. The challenge for us is to ask if we are desperate enough to seek out the Savior and come to him in faith and love. Passage: Luke 8:40-56

Jesus, Legion, and Our Great Salvation

In this sermon we consider the man possessed by a legion of demons who is miraculous saved by Jesus. The response of those looking on as well as the response of this saved man paint a portrait of how people respond to the power and authority of Jesus. May it encourage us to “sit at the feet of Jesus” in reverence, love, and obedience. Passage: Luke 8:26-39
