The Enduring Word

In a world that is hostile to the gospel, what confidence does the Christian have in his mission? What hope does he have that his efforts will not fail? Acts 4:13-22 brings us to the answer: that the Word of God will endure come what may. As the church takes it’s stand for Christ, weak and frail as she is, the powers of darkness will never prevail. God will ensure the continuation of the truth. Passage: Acts 4:13-22

Sovereign from Beginning to End

In this sermon we see a present day description of Jesus Christ. He is exalted in authority and strength. Jesus Christ is the great sovereign, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. We need this vision of Jesus in times of tribulation, doubt, anxiety, and confusion. This is Jesus, high and lifted up. Passage: Revelation 1:9-18

The Perfect Plan

This sermon examines Peter’s words to the people of Jerusalem 50 days after Jesus’ death. Peter explains that Jesus was delivered over to death by the definite plan and foreknowledge of God. This raises questions about God’s character and human responsibility. What we see are important truths that are meant to be understood, lead us to repentance, and grant us boldness to live for Christ. Passage: Acts 2:23

The Axe in God’s Hand

This sermon continues our examination of the sovereignty of God by considering God’s judgment of the northern tribes at the hands of the Assyrian army. This passage is clear and decisively teaches the both the absolute sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man. Be warned: this sermon is a hard sermon. Yet, may this text bring clarity and greater convictions concerning the greatness of our God. Passage: Isaiah 10:5-12

The Glory of God in Power Over Pharaoh

In this sermon, we consider the exodus of Israel from Egypt. God orchestrated this event to show his power so that his name might be proclaimed in all the earth. This involved mighty acts of judgment and the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart until God’s purposes were fulfilled. It is important to know this event and then submit to and worship this great God! This is the second sermon in a series of sermons on the Sovereignty of God. Passage: Exodus…

God Meant Evil for Good

God is in control of all things. This simple truth becomes more difficult when we consider evil in the world and the evil actions of men. How does God’s rule extend over evil and suffering? This message considers the story of Joseph and how God is revealed in his life. Not only must we know about God’s sovereignty, we must live in light of it. May this sermon help us to do just that. This is the first of a…

Generations of Boaz

This sermon considers the union between Boaz and Ruth and their offspring after them. The genealogy at the end of Ruth is significant and teaches us many important lessons. Most importantly, it testifies of the faithfulness of God from generation to generation. Passage: Ruth 4:13-22

The Gospel

Discussions on Christian Nationalism and Theonomy (see previous seminars) have involved asking the question whether these things distract or are even deviations of the gospel. In this seminar, Pastor Tim examines the gospel and the accusation that laboring for righteousness can undermine it. What we see is a beautiful centrality to the gospel and how we ought to live because of it. This is part four of a seminar series on Christian Nationalism, Theonomy, Postmillenialism, and the Gospel. Passage: 1…

The Redeemer

Continuing through the story of Boaz and Ruth this sermon examines the scene when Boaz is before the elders of the city to discuss and decide who will redeem Ruth and Naomi. We see that Boaz reflects the self-sacrificing love of God and the blessing of a household built up in the Lord. This story challenges our lack of sacrifice and our selfish priorities. Only a vision of God’s grace and love can set us free from such self-focus. Passage:…

Postmillenialism

Recent discussions on Christian Nationalism and Theonomy (see previous seminars) have often turned to matters of eschatology. It is maintained that eschatology is connected to how one views cultural engagement. Many assume that postmillenialism is the underlying commitment. However, in this seminar, moving past labels, Pastor Tim presents the eschatology of hope presented in the New Testament and in history. As William Carey put it, when we expect great things from God, we attempt great things for God. This is…

Plans and Providence

As the story of Ruth continues we reflect in this sermon on the plans of men and the providence of God. Naomi puts forth a risky plan to see Boaz and Ruth married. As the plan unfolds, with its success and setbacks, we’re reminded that God is carrying out his plan of grace and mercy. Passage: Ruth 3

Theonomy

There is confusion and division surrounding “Theonomy.” This seminar seeks to answer some commonly asked questions and reflect upon this conversation in the church. This seminar raises and answers the following questions: 1) What is theonomy or general equity theonomy? 2) What about concerns of separation of church and state; salvation by works; state religion and forced conversion; confusion of law and gospel; and a misunderstanding of the discontinuity between old and new covenants? 3) Grappling with modern assumptions that…
