Appeal to Fellowship Prairies Churches
For best results, view this article on a computer rather than a mobile device so that the embedded PDFs are visible. To my brothers and sisters in Christ, joined in a partnership of churches called Fellowship Prairies, greetings. I regret that this correspondence will take away valuable time from your ministry and kingdom work. I’m not keen on writing to you about ongoing disagreement in our region, however the Fellowship Prairies Leadership Board (FPLB) has recently given notice of a…
Voddie Baucham (1969-2025)
Voddie Baucham, a powerful expositor of God’s word, suddenly passed away last week at the age of 56. Our church family was planning to welcome him to Calgary as he was planned to be at our church October 10–12 to speak at several events. God’s plans are not our plans. That weekend is canceled and in its place is Voddie’s funeral. I know many in our congregation are shocked to hear this news, and even though we do not know…
Fellowship Meal Revisited
We are restarting our Fellowship Meal this Sunday after a renovation to paint the gym and refinish the floor. Whether or not you are new to our Fellowship Meal, I want you to scan this webpage (https://www.fairviewbaptistchurch.ca/fellowship-meal/) to acquaint yourself with our shared meal on Sundays so that you are prepared with what you need to bring. Beyond the reminders already listed on that page, I want to remind you of a few things. First, the purpose of the meal…
Superheroes & The Christian Family
I admit this is sort of an odd topic to read on. It is certainly not what you might find typically discussed in a theological newsletter. But, as a dad of two young boys, I have pondered the subject on more than a few occasions, and no doubt others have as well. This being, the influence of superheroes in a Christian family. Or, to put it in the form of a question, should Christians, and their children, be introduced to…
Remember
This Sunday marks the last Sunday that we will be worshiping as a church at 230 – 78 Ave SE. For the last 63 years Christians have gathered in that location to worship Jesus Christ. Starting Sunday, May 28th, we will move to a larger facility at 3311 Centre St N which has also been the home of Christian worship in the past. As we look forward and give thanks to God we take time to remember his faithfulness in…
Gratitude: 5 Ways to Thank God for His Provision
On November 16, 2022 we sent out an email with a call to give generously. A few days prior we had voted as a congregation to approve the conditional sale of a new church facility at 3311 Centre Street N. This marked a milestone as it had been more than a year in which we had been earnestly praying and seeking a new location that would contain the growing family at Fairview. As I mentioned in that email, we were…
To Sell or Not to Sell…
…that is the question. In the processes of selling our facility, questions have arisen on who and who not to sell it to. Would we sell to a group that differs with us in doctrine? Would we sell to an investor to build condos? Would we sell to those who are affirming of the LGBTQ+ agenda? Would we sell to Jews? or to Muslims? Of course, we all agree that our preference is to sell our facility to another group…
Loaves and Fish Offering
You can watch the announcement of this offering from Sunday, November 4th or read the content of that announcement below. Jesus had been teaching all day and 5000 men along with women and children were hungry. They had no amenities, no provisions, and were in a desolate place with little resources (see Luke 9:10–17 and corresponding sermon “5000 Reasons to Depend on Jesus”). Jesus told (and tested) his disciples, “You give them something to eat.” In response, they had three…
A Call to the Lord’s People to Give Generously
* Updated: November 15, 2022. Congregation approval received on November 13. Praying for the sale of our current facility and praying for the Lord to provide all funding necessary. Full update below. Background “What they meant for evil, God meant for good” (Genesis 50:20). In June 2021, after mounting pressure related to COVID mandates and restrictions, AHS and Calgary Police locked us out of our building and imprisoned me. I spent 3 weeks in jail and our church building was…
First Semester Update
Pastor Tim here. Grace and peace to all of you and greetings from the saints at Grace Community Church. I’ve just started a three-year doctoral program at the Master’s Seminary with an emphasis on expository preaching. I’m studying under men such as John MacArthur and Steve Lawson whose preaching has been a gift to the church. Three weeks of the year I’ll be away from home and church for classes but I’ll be back and behind the pulpit to complete…
The Seven Spirits of Revelation
John writes in Revelation 1:4–5, “Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.” The question before us is this, who or what are the seven spirits before his throne? The best way to understand the seven spirits here in Revelation is a…
